Hi, I’m Kate Fellowes. I have been working in and around the NHS for all of my working life since leaving school in the 1990’s. I have had a varied experience over the years, ranging from dementia Nursing Homes, District Nursing, Palliative Care, Police Custody Nursing, right up until now as a Specialist Nurse Practitioner in a GP surgery local to Birmingham and Solihull.
I love my job, love the daily interactions, listening to problems and trying my best to help.
I have carried out ear wax removal as part of my day to day role for over 20 years now. I have to say, I have always found this bizarrely satisfying! I love the feeling of seeing a person’s face beaming at me saying they can hear again! I don’t think people realise just what an impact ear wax build up can have on somebody’s quality of life, not just the hearing loss but the irritation and discomfort it can cause.
Sadly, GP surgeries were decommissioned in providing the service which meant that hundreds of patients missed out on this vital treatment. And for me personally; I really missed doing this treatment and did not want to deskill in this- hence Ear Wax Removal by Kate started!
I updated my skills at the company UK Microsuction to ensure I am up to date in all of the recent developments, I also continue my personal professional development in this area. I have the ongoing support from the company and colleagues in the area who are also certified by UK Microsuction.
I am insured by Insync to carry out ear wax and foreign body removal on both adults and children from age 3 years. I have personal experience in neurodivergent children and adults so can be sensitive to these needs.
I take data protection very seriously, I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office; all clients data is securely stored on a password protected device.
Aside from my working life, I have a very busy personal life. Mainly running around after two teenagers, a husband and a very stubborn cat! I also volunteer for the charity Winston’s Wish to help and advise them on their services for childhood bereavement.
